CHAPTER 4 — THE BANQUET THAT TURNED INTO A CONFESSION

Upstairs, the banquet reached its peak.

A toast was being prepared when the doors opened again.

But this time, the CEO entered alone.

No smile.

No greeting.

Just silence following him like a shadow.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” he said.

The room quieted, sensing the shift immediately.

“I need to apologize,” he continued.

Then he placed the photograph on the central table.

Gasps spread like wildfire.

Behind him, Valeria appeared at the edge of the room—pale, shaking, suddenly no longer glamorous but fragile.

And Lila stood further back, still in her kitchen uniform, as if she didn’t belong in the same world as any of them.

But she was the center of it all.

The CEO’s voice hardened.

“For six years, I was lied to. For six years, I was told a truth that benefited someone else.”

His eyes locked on Valeria.

“And tonight, I found out I have a daughter.”

Silence swallowed the banquet.

Then Valeria finally broke.

“I did it because you would’ve chosen her over me,” she whispered. “You always would have.”

The CEO didn’t answer.

Because the answer was already obvious.

Security arrived.

Valeria was taken away without resistance anymore—only humiliation.

And for the first time, Lila looked up fully.

Not as a kitchen worker.

Not as a hidden secret.

But as a mother whose silence had finally ended.

The CEO walked toward her slowly.

“Mira is my daughter,” he said.

Lila nodded through tears.

“Yes.”

A long pause.

Then he asked the question that changed everything:

“Where is she now?”

May you like

Lila looked at him—fear still lingering, but something stronger beneath it.

“Waiting,” she said. “She always was.”
