CHAPTER 2 — THE MAN WHO NEVER NEEDED TO SHOUT

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

The woman stared at the man standing in the doorway.

Her confidence vanished.

Replaced by fear.

Real fear.

The little boy's eyes filled with relief.

"Dad..."

The word was barely a whisper.

But it echoed through the mansion.

The man crossed the room slowly.

Every step felt heavier than thunder.

He stopped in front of the child and knelt down.

His gaze softened immediately.

The contrast was terrifying.

One moment he looked capable of destroying empires.

The next, he gently touched the boy's swollen cheek.

"Who did this?"

The child hesitated.

His eyes drifted toward the woman.

That was answer enough.

The man stood.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

The room became colder.

The woman forced a nervous laugh.

"Honey, you're misunderstanding—"

"Don't."

One word.

That was all.

Yet it struck harder than any scream.

She fell silent instantly.

The servants exchanged nervous glances.

Because they had worked in the mansion for years.

And they knew something.

When Alexander Hart became quiet...

someone was about to lose everything.

"You hit my son."

It wasn't a question.

It was a verdict.

The woman swallowed.

"It was discipline."

Alexander stared at her.

Then at the frightened child behind him.

Then back at her.

"No."

His voice remained calm.

"It was cruelty."

May you like

For the first time, she realized she was no longer speaking to her husband.

She was standing before a man who had just discovered a betrayal he would never forgive.
