Chapter 2: The House of Lies

The confrontation moved to the grand living room, but the warmth of the luxury estate had completely died. Clara sat on the sofa, wrapped in a warm blanket her father had brought her, while Arthur stood by the fireplace, his gaze fixed on Evelyn like a predator.

With her back against the wall, Evelyn tried to play her final card. "You can't ruin our family over a misunderstanding, Arthur! Think about my standing in the charity board. Think about your business reputation!"

"Your standing?" Arthur laughed, a bitter, humorless sound. "You forged school transcripts. You intercepted her letters. You turned my daughter into an indentured servant in my own house!"

Evelyn's panic turned into desperate malice. "She is lazy, just like her biological mother! She deserves nothing from this estate!"

But Evelyn didn't know that Clara had not been entirely helpless. While forced to clean the house, Clara had spent weeks secretly gathering evidence. She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a small, encrypted flash drive, placing it on the glass coffee table.

"It's not just the abuse, Dad," Clara said, her voice steadying. "While cleaning Evelyn’s private study, I found the offshore accounts. She wasn't just stealing my tuition money. She has been embezzling millions from your firm’s charity foundation to fund her own shell companies."

Evelyn’s face turned completely ashen. She lunged toward the table to grab the drive, but Arthur intercepted her, his grip like iron. "Don't touch it," he hissed. "It's over, Evelyn."
