Chapter 4: Home Again

One year later...
Sunlight poured through the windows of a restored Victorian house overlooking a quiet park.
Sophie's laughter echoed through the living room.
Elena stood in the kitchen preparing breakfast while framed paintings from her new gallery covered the walls.
The house wasn't extravagant.
It was peaceful.
That mattered far more.
Jonathan attended the gallery's anniversary celebration as an honored guest, but he refused every speech praising him.
"The hero isn't me," he said.
He pointed toward Sophie, now happily showing visitors her newest drawing.
"She reminded every adult in that hallway what courage actually looks like."
Later that evening, Sophie handed her mother a crayon drawing.
It showed three people holding hands beneath a bright blue sky.
Above them she had carefully written:
"Home is where nobody is afraid."
Elena hugged her daughter tightly.
For the first time in years, the embrace wasn't interrupted by fear, shouting, or footsteps echoing down a marble hallway.
Only laughter.
Only peace.
May you like
And only the certainty that real strength had never belonged to the man with the black cane.
It belonged to the little girl who chose love over fear—and to every person who finally chose to stand beside her.
