CHAPTER 2 — THE PHONE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The ambulance doors slammed shut.
Sirens wailed.
Officer Daniel Torres climbed inside without hesitation.
"Pulse is weak," a paramedic shouted.
"Blood pressure's dropping."
Emily remained unconscious.
One hand still rested protectively over her stomach.
Even now...
Her body refused to stop protecting her son.
Daniel looked at the blood staining the ambulance floor.
Something didn't feel right.
Marcus Kane hadn't attacked out of anger.
He had attacked out of fear.
Fear meant secrets.
And secrets left evidence.
Daniel returned to the mall before the blood on the marble had even dried.
Most officers saw a violent assault.
Daniel saw a crime scene.
He collected the shattered phone Emily had dropped during the attack.
The screen was cracked.
The battery nearly dead.
A notification blinked.
Scheduled message sent successfully.
His eyes narrowed.
The message had been programmed to send automatically if anything happened to her.
He opened it.
Inside was a single sentence.
"If you're reading this, Marcus knows I found the Ledger."
Below it...
A secure cloud link.
Daniel tapped it.
Hundreds of files appeared.
Bank transfers.
Secret contracts.
Offshore accounts.
Encrypted emails.
Photographs of meetings with politicians.
Every document carried one unmistakable name.
Marcus Kane.
Then Daniel noticed something even worse.
The conspiracy wasn't built around one billionaire.
It involved judges.
Corporate executives.
Investment firms.
Even public officials.
Billions of dollars had disappeared over the last decade.
Marcus wasn't the mastermind.
He was only the face of it.
Daniel immediately called federal investigators.
"This case just became much bigger than attempted murder."
Outside the hospital...
May you like
Black SUVs quietly began arriving.
Someone powerful already knew the files had been found.
