Chapter 3: Justice Walks Through the Front Door

The following Monday morning, Derek arrived at company headquarters expecting another ordinary board meeting.

Instead, every director remained seated in complete silence.

At the far end of the conference room sat Elena.

Beside her stood Detective Harris and two investigators from the financial crimes unit.

Marlene stopped walking.

"What is this?"

Elena calmly slid several folders across the polished table.

"Corporate fraud."

"Forgery."

"Money laundering."

"And evidence of domestic assault."

Derek forced a smile.

"You can't prove any of that."

Elena pressed a remote.

The conference room monitor came to life.

The smoke detector recording filled the room.

Derek's own voice echoed through the speakers.

"Get up, useless woman!"

Then came Marlene's laughter.

No one around the table spoke.

The directors simply stared.

After the recording ended, Detective Harris placed another stack of documents in front of Derek.

Bank records.

Recovered emails.

Digital signatures.

Transfer logs.

Every lie had become evidence.

Every excuse had disappeared.

The detective looked directly at Derek.

"You both need to come with us."

For the first time in years, Derek had nothing left to control.
