CHAPTER 2 — THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SILENCE

The wedding reception continued, but the atmosphere had completely changed.

Victoria sat quietly.

Her confidence was gone.

Michael walked toward Eleanor.

“I owe you an apology.”

Eleanor looked at him.

“For what?”

“For allowing this to happen.”

He glanced at Olivia.

“I should have defended her sooner.”

Olivia held her mother’s hand.

“She never wanted anyone to know.”

Michael looked surprised.

“Why?”

Eleanor opened an old photograph from her handbag.

It showed a younger version of herself working in a small restaurant.

“I started with nothing.”

She smiled.

“I washed dishes. I worked nights. I built everything slowly.”

The guests listened.

“The company was never about showing people I was rich.”

She looked at Olivia.

“It was about giving my daughter a life where she never had to feel ashamed.”

Victoria suddenly spoke.

“You still embarrassed my family.”

The room became quiet.

Eleanor looked at her.

“No, Victoria.”

She gently closed the folder.

“You embarrassed yourself.”

The words hit harder than any insult.

Because they were true.

Victoria had spent years measuring people by status.

And in one evening, everyone discovered the person she looked down on was the person with the most strength.
