CHAPTER 3 — THE TRUTH THAT DESTROYED EVERYTHING
Tears filled Doña Elena's eyes.
Finally, she spoke.
"Twenty years ago, your daughter Isabella became pregnant."
The room gasped.
Alejandro stood motionless.
"She fell in love with a poor man," Elena continued. "I refused to accept it."
Sofia listened in shock.
"I told Isabella the baby would ruin our family name."
Her voice cracked.
"When the child was born, I paid someone to take the baby away."
Alejandro stared at his wife in disbelief.
"You told me our granddaughter died."
"I lied."
The room exploded with whispers.
Sofia felt the ground disappear beneath her feet.
"You're saying..." she whispered.
Elena lowered her head.
"You're Isabella's daughter."
At that exact moment, another voice echoed from the ballroom entrance.
"She's telling the truth."
Everyone turned.
A woman stood in the doorway.
Older.
Weaker.
But unmistakable.
"Mom?" Sofia whispered.
The woman nodded through tears.
It was Isabella.
