Chapter 3 – The Cameras Never Lied

Hospital security immediately reviewed surveillance footage.
Daniel refused to leave.
Neither did Evelyn.
Hour after hour, they watched recordings from every hallway.
Then, at 2:13 a.m. the night before...
Marissa quietly entered Noah's room carrying a designer handbag.
She smiled at the sleeping boy.
She removed a small cosmetic case.
Inside was a plastic specimen container.
The footage had no audio.
But it showed everything else.
She carefully opened the side of Noah's cast.
Tilted the container.
Something dropped inside.
Then she sealed the opening with quick-drying plaster she had hidden in the bag.
She left the room smiling.
The security office became silent.
Daniel's hands trembled.
"No..."
He replayed the footage.
Again.
And again.
Each viewing made the truth harder to deny.
Police investigators searched Marissa's belongings.
Inside a locked drawer at the mansion they found dozens of specimen containers, veterinary supplies, fast-setting plaster, and a notebook.
Every page contained dates.
Punishments.
Rewards.
Ways to frighten Noah without leaving obvious injuries.
One sentence made Detective Harper stop reading aloud.
"Fear leaves fewer bruises than fists."
Daniel sat down heavily.
His marriage had been built on lies.
His son had been living in terror.
And he had never seen it.
He walked into Noah's hospital room.
His voice broke.
"I'm so sorry."
Noah looked at him quietly.
"I kept telling you."
Daniel fell to his knees.
"I know."
Tears streamed down his face.
"I should have listened."
Noah reached out with his healthy hand.
