Chapter 2: When the Cameras Told the Truth

Within twenty minutes, detectives arrived.

The barriers remained closed.

No guest was allowed to leave until statements had been taken.

One by one, officers interviewed witnesses.

Most claimed they hadn't seen anything.

"I was talking."

"I wasn't looking."

"I don't remember."

The detective nodded politely.

Then he turned toward the ballroom screen.

"Let's see what the cameras remember."

The footage began.

Crystal clear.

High definition.

Every angle.

Everyone watched Adrian corner me near the marble staircase.

They saw him grab my wrist.

Saw me try to step away.

Saw him slam me against the wall.

He struck me once.

Then again.

No provocation.

No self-defense.

Just violence.

The detective paused the video.

He looked around the room.

"Would anyone like to revise their statement?"

Several witnesses slowly lowered their heads.

One woman quietly raised her hand.

"I lied."

"I saw everything."

Another followed.

"So did I."

Within minutes, more guests came forward.

The silence that had protected Adrian collapsed.

But the video wasn't finished.

The next camera showed Adrian's closest friends laughing.

One of them deliberately moved between us so others couldn't see the assault.

Another took my phone after I dropped it and kicked it beneath a table.

The detectives exchanged glances.

"That's evidence tampering."
