Chapter 1: Broken Boundaries

The echo of Marcus’s final shout still vibrated through the small blue-and-white striped nursery. On the floor, Beverly clutched her head, her manic arrogance melting into pure venom. She glared up at her son, her voice shaking with bitter resentment.

"You choose her?" Beverly spat, pushing herself up against the wooden wardrobe. "After everything I’ve done to secure this family’s future? She is nothing, Marcus! She will ruin you, just like she’s ruining my grandson!"

"Get out of my house, Mother," Marcus said, his voice dropping to a terrifyingly calm whisper. He didn't move an inch, shielding Elena and the wooden crib behind his broad frame. "If you ever step foot near my wife or my son again, the next person you talk to will be the police."

Realizing she had completely lost her grip on Marcus, Beverly straightened her dark hoodie, gave a final, hateful glance toward the crib, and stormed out of the room, slamming the front door behind her.

The moment the house fell silent, the adrenaline faded. Elena collapsed against Marcus’s chest, her navy blue hoodie damp with hot tears. Marcus wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in her dark hair while gently rocking her. In the crib, the newborn’s cries began to soften, comforted by the steady, familiar murmurs of his parents promising that the nightmare was over.
