PART 3 — The Collapse of the Illusion

The next morning, the headlines had already started forming.
But inside the mansion, there was only silence.
Daniel stood in front of the nursery he had once proudly prepared—blue walls, tiny crib, toys still wrapped in plastic.
Now it felt like a lie built with expensive paint.
He had tried calling her ten times. No answer.
His mother burst into the room. “What have you done?! The entire family is humiliated!”
“I didn’t mean—” Daniel started.
“You didn’t mean to get caught,” she cut him off sharply.
Meanwhile, across the city, she sat in a quiet apartment, untouched by luxury but finally free from noise.
Her hand rested on her belly as she spoke softly to her unborn child.
“You’re going to have peace,” she whispered. “Even if I have to rebuild the whole world to give it to you.”
A knock came at the door.
She didn’t move.
A second knock.
Then Daniel’s voice, broken this time. No pride left.
“Please… let me see you. I made a mistake.”
Long silence.
When she finally opened the door, she didn’t look angry.
Just finished.
“You didn’t make a mistake,” she said calmly. “You made a choice. Every day. Until you got caught.”
Daniel’s voice cracked. “I love you.”
She shook her head slowly.
“No. You loved having me… until I stopped being convenient.”
She placed a document on the small table between them.
Divorce papers.
And beneath it—one final line she had written herself:
Full custody. No conditions. No contact during pregnancy.
Daniel stared at it like it was a sentence he couldn’t read.
“You’re taking my child?” he whispered.
Her eyes lifted—steady, unshaking.
“No,” she said. “I’m protecting him from becoming you.”
Then she closed the door.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
Just оконч—final.
And for the first time, Daniel understood something irreversible had happened:
May you like
He didn’t lose her in that ballroom.
He lost her long before… the moment he decided she wouldn’t notice.
