Nearly a year passed.
The mansion no longer felt cold.
Children's laughter echoed through the hallways again.
Bright drawings covered the refrigerator.
The dog bowl was gone forever.
One Saturday morning, Marcus cooked pancakes while Lily carefully poured syrup onto her plate.
She looked up and smiled.
A real smile.
Not forced.
Not frightened.
Just happy.
"Daddy?"
"Yes?"
"Can we invite Grandma for breakfast?"
Marcus laughed softly.
"I'd like that."
As they sat together at the dining table, Lily reached across and squeezed his hand.
"I don't feel scared anymore."
Those six words meant more than every business deal Marcus had ever signed.
Months later, he established the Lily Foundation, funding counseling and legal support for children recovering from abuse.
At the dedication ceremony, reporters asked why he had invested so much.
Marcus looked at his daughter, now laughing with other children in the garden.
Then he answered quietly.
"I spent years building a company."
"I almost forgot that the greatest thing I'll ever build..."
"...is a childhood my daughter no longer has to survive."
Because wealth can replace almost anything.
Homes.
Businesses.
Fortunes.
But the years stolen from a child...
