Chapter 4: By Sunrise

A year later, I stood inside the same warehouse.

Only it no longer belonged to Nathan.

The board had unanimously elected a new leadership team.

Daniel became chief executive officer.

I accepted the role of chairwoman.

The old freezer remained exactly where investigators had left it.

I chose not to remove it.

Instead, a small plaque hung beside the steel door.

It read:

Integrity is what protects you when no one is watching.

Every new employee walked past it during orientation.

Not as a warning born from fear.

As a reminder that trust must always be earned.

Outside, the first rays of sunrise spilled across the loading docks.

I remembered Nathan's final mistake.

He believed survival belonged to the strongest.

He never understood it belonged to the prepared.

He planned my funeral.

I documented his crimes.

He believed the freezer would erase the truth.

Instead, it preserved it.

As I stepped into the morning light, reporters shouted questions behind me.

I kept walking.

The trial was over.

May you like

Justice had been served.

And the future he tried to steal was finally mine to build.
