Part 3: Sierra Doesn’t Answer

By morning, Cole Whitmore expected panic.

A crying voicemail. A hospital call. A dramatic message about how she “couldn’t handle things.”

Instead, he got silence.

Too much silence.

The apartment was clean.

Not normal-clean.

Stripped-clean.

The crib sheets were gone. The twins’ bottles. The diaper bag. Lauren’s coat. Even the small refrigerator magnets Lily used to stare at during feeding time.

Cole stood in the middle of the nursery for a full minute before he moved.

Then he called her.

Phone: Disconnected.

Again.

Same result.

Something unfamiliar crept into his chest—not fear yet.

Disruption.

He called security. Then hospitals. Then her friends.

No one had seen her.

At 9:14 a.m., he found the Tiffany receipt again.

To Sierra.

He typed the name into his phone.

One result mattered.

A private event planner. High-end. Discreet clientele. Luxury arrangements for people who didn’t want their lives traced.

Cole exhaled slowly.

“She didn’t leave,” he muttered to himself. “She’s trying to punish me.”

But even as he said it, doubt slipped in.

Because Lauren had never been strategic before.

She had always been predictable.

And now she wasn’t.

By noon, his assistant walked in.

“You need to see this,” she said.

It was a security still.

Lauren at a private clinic.

Two infants.

A woman signing documents under a different name.

Cole stared at the screen.

“She can’t do that,” he said quietly.

But she already had.
