Chapter 1 — The Man Santiago Never Expected

Silence swept through the mansion.

Even the grandfather clock in the foyer seemed to stop ticking.

Santiago stared at the man standing in the doorway.

Ricardo Salazar.

For years, business magazines had called him the architect of modern Mexico's financial renaissance. Presidents sought his advice. International investors competed for his attention.

And now he stood inside the Rivas mansion, his expression unreadable.

"Who are you?" Santiago demanded, though uncertainty had already crept into his voice.

Ricardo ignored him.

His eyes settled on his daughter.

Valeria's cheek was swollen.

One hand remained protectively over her eight-month pregnant belly.

Her breathing was uneven.

Something inside him broke.

He crossed the marble floor without a word and gently cupped her face.

"I'm here."

The words were soft.

But they carried twenty-eight years of fatherly love.

Valeria finally allowed herself to cry.

"I'm sorry, Dad."

Ricardo shook his head.

"You have nothing to apologize for."

He slowly removed his overcoat and draped it over her shoulders.

Then he turned toward Santiago.

"You touched my daughter."

It wasn't a question.

Santiago straightened his posture.

"This is a misunderstanding between husband and wife."

One of Ricardo's attorneys quietly placed a tablet on the dining table.

The screen displayed a live recording.

Every threat.

Every insult.

Every blow.

Everything had been streamed in real time.

Ricardo's voice remained calm.

"No."

"This is evidence."
