Chapter 3: The Legacy My Grandfather Left Me

One year later...

Ward Holdings celebrated its fiftieth anniversary.

Not with celebrities.

Not with extravagant parties.

But by opening three scholarship programs for employees' children and expanding healthcare benefits across every division.

My grandfather used to say,

"A company should improve the lives of the people who build it."

For the first time in years...

It did.

The penthouse overlooking the city remained exactly where it had always been.

The marble floors.

The floor-to-ceiling windows.

The underground garage.

The same keys Daniel once threw onto the floor now rested in a crystal bowl beside the entrance.

Not because they represented wealth.

Because they reminded me of the night I finally stopped asking for permission to stand inside my own life.

One afternoon, Victor entered my office carrying an old cardboard box.

"We found these while clearing Daniel's office."

Inside were photographs from our first years together.

Our tiny apartment.

Cheap furniture.

Shared dreams.

Two people who genuinely believed love could survive anything.

I smiled sadly.

Then closed the box.

Some memories deserve gratitude.

Not another chance.

That evening, I stood alone on the rooftop terrace overlooking the skyline.

The city lights stretched endlessly beneath the stars.

My grandfather's words echoed in my mind.

"Never confuse the person who runs a company with the person who built its foundation."

Daniel believed titles made him powerful.

He forgot that titles can be taken away.

He believed luxury cars, penthouses, and boardrooms proved ownership.

He forgot that true ownership begins with responsibility.

As I looked across the buildings carrying my family's name, I realized something I wished I had understood years earlier:

The greatest mistake wasn't trusting the wrong man.

It was forgetting my own worth while trying to prove it to him.

When I finally remembered who I was...

I didn't just reclaim a company.

I reclaimed my life.

And unlike everything Daniel lost that night...

No one would ever be able to take that away again.
