Chapter 1 — The Call That Ended an Empire

The revolving doors of the Grand Monarch Hotel spun behind Isabella as two security guards awkwardly escorted her onto the sidewalk.

Rain had begun to fall.

Across the glass façade, she caught one last glimpse of Marcus.

He stood in the presidential lobby with one arm around Vanessa, the woman who now wore Isabella's sapphire brooch as if it were a trophy.

Marcus raised a champagne glass.

He smiled.

He believed he had won.

Isabella looked down at her wedding ring.

For eleven years she had protected Marcus from the truth.

She had never wanted him to love her because of her family's fortune.

When they married, she signed away every executive title inside the family corporation.

She refused dividends.

She accepted only a modest salary as Director of Guest Experience, working longer hours than anyone else.

Marcus believed every success belonged to him.

She had quietly allowed him to believe it.

Not anymore.

Her father's voice remained calm on the phone.

"I warned you years ago that ambition without character becomes greed."

"I know."

"Are you certain?"

She closed her eyes.

"I stayed because I loved my husband."

A long silence followed.

"I am leaving because I finally love myself."

Her father exhaled softly.

"Then let me finish what I started."

Within minutes, attorneys in New York, London, Singapore, and Zurich received encrypted instructions.

Emergency board meetings were scheduled.

Corporate ownership files that had remained sealed for more than a decade were opened.

The luxury empire Marcus proudly called Marcus International Hospitality had never legally belonged to him.

Its parent company—

Ashcroft Global Holdings

—had always belonged to Isabella's family.

Marcus owned only shares.

Her family owned everything else.
