Chapter 1: The Bride Who Owned Everything

The ballroom remained frozen.

No one dared breathe.

The venue manager held the leather portfolio with both hands as though presenting it to royalty.

"Madam Mason," he said respectfully. "The ownership transfer was completed at exactly eight o'clock this morning. As instructed, every document has been finalized."

Patricia Whitlock laughed nervously.

"This is ridiculous."

She snatched one sheet from the folder.

The laughter died.

There it was.

The official seal.

The signatures.

The property deed.

The Whitlock family had spent months boasting that they had rented the most exclusive wedding estate in the state.

What none of them knew...

...was that Clara had quietly purchased it three weeks earlier through an investment company registered under her late grandfather's trust.

Every guest slowly turned toward Clara.

She stood perfectly still in her torn wedding gown.

"I wasn't hiding because I was poor," she said softly.

"I was hiding because I wanted to know whether this family loved me—or only respected money."

Andrew swallowed.

"You...you bought this place?"

Clara nodded.

"My grandfather built it."

The room erupted in whispers.

Patricia's face turned white.

She had mocked Clara for sewing her own wedding dress.

She had called her cheap.

Pathetic.

Unworthy.

Clara smiled sadly.

"I designed this dress myself because my grandmother taught me how to sew before she died."

She touched the ripped lace.

"The fabric cost almost nothing."

She looked directly at Patricia.

"But every stitch carried a memory."

For the first time...

Patricia realized she hadn't destroyed a dress.

She had destroyed the last gift a granddaughter had made to honor the woman who raised her.

Andrew stepped closer.

"I'm sure my mother didn't mean—"

Clara raised one hand.

"No."

Her voice remained calm.

"This is the last time anyone speaks for her."

Silence.

Then she looked toward the manager.

"Please begin Phase Two."

The manager smiled.

May you like

"Yes, Madam."

Every television screen inside the ballroom suddenly lit up.
