Chapter 1: Red Scars and Sterile Walls

The trauma team rushed Khloe through the emergency doors while Marcus remained frozen in the hallway, unable to process what he had just heard.

My niece.

The words echoed through his mind louder than the emergency alarms.

"You've got to be kidding me," he whispered.

Dr. Robert Hayes turned before disappearing into the operating suite.

"For seven years," Robert said coldly, "my niece begged me not to interfere in her marriage. She believed you loved her. She wanted to build a family without using my influence."

Marcus felt his stomach tighten.

"You... you're really related?"

Robert removed his glasses.

"Her late mother was my sister."

Silence.

Marcus suddenly remembered every family gathering Khloe had skipped.

Every invitation she politely declined.

Every time she insisted she had "very little family."

She hadn't been hiding because she was ashamed.

She had been protecting him from accusations that she married him through connections.

Robert's expression hardened.

"Instead, you allowed another woman to assault your pregnant wife while worrying about newspaper headlines."

Marcus tried to defend himself.

"I didn't know what really happened."

Robert stepped closer.

"You chose not to know."

Before Marcus could answer, two hospital security officers approached.

"Mr. Thorne," one said.

"The Director has instructed that Miss Isabella Rossi remain under hospital security until law enforcement arrives."

Isabella immediately panicked.

"This is ridiculous!"

"I didn't do anything!"

Robert folded his arms.

"Bring up Corridor Camera Twelve."

A nearby television switched from hospital programming to security footage.

Every second appeared in perfect clarity.

Isabella entering Khloe's suite.

No invitation.

No witnesses.

Several minutes later...

The shove.

Khloe stumbling backward.

Then—

The unmistakable motion of Isabella stepping forward and striking Khloe before Marcus ever entered.

Nobody spoke.

The footage continued.

Marcus entered.

Khloe reached toward him.

Instead of helping...

He looked toward the hallway.

Then toward the broken decorations.

Then spoke about protecting his reputation.

Robert quietly looked at Marcus.

"That decision may cost you everything."

Within thirty minutes another discovery changed everything.

Elaine Parker—the event coordinator—approached Robert carrying a flash drive.

"I think you need this."

"What is it?"

"The ballroom security recordings."

Robert inserted the drive.

Hours of footage appeared.

Marcus and Isabella.

Private elevators.

Secret meetings.

Late-night hotel rooms.

Whispered conversations.

Hand-holding.

Kisses they believed no cameras had captured.

The affair had been happening for nearly eight months.

Robert slowly removed the drive.

"So while your wife carried your child..."

He looked directly into Marcus's eyes.

"...you were building another life."

Marcus couldn't deny a single frame.

Because the cameras never lied.

Far down the hallway, surgery lights continued glowing above the operating room doors.

Marcus realized he wasn't waiting to save his marriage anymore.

He was waiting to discover whether he deserved forgiveness that would never come.
