Chapter 2: The Trial

Three months later, every seat inside the county courthouse was filled.

The case had become national news.

Elena entered wearing an expensive gray suit instead of designer dresses.

Gone were the dramatic tears.

Gone was the confidence.

Arthur sat quietly beside Lily's child therapist.

He never looked toward Elena.

The prosecution presented the kitchen footage.

Then came something no one expected.

Digital forensic experts testified that Elena had searched online for:

"How to make bruises look real."

"Can makeup hide self-inflicted injuries?"

"How much money can I sue my husband for domestic abuse?"

The courtroom fell silent.

Former employees testified that Elena had often bragged she would receive "half of everything" if Arthur's reputation collapsed.

Even her former makeup artist admitted she had been asked to create bruises using cosmetics before the livestream.

Finally...

Little Lily was called as a witness.

She sat in a special chair with a stuffed rabbit in her lap.

The judge spoke gently.

"You don't have to answer anything that makes you uncomfortable."

Lily nodded.

Then she looked directly at Elena.

Her tiny voice filled the courtroom.

"I loved you."

"I thought moms were supposed to keep children warm."

Several jurors quietly wiped away tears.

Elena lowered her eyes.

She couldn't look at the child she had spent months trying to manipulate.

When closing arguments ended, the jury needed less than two hours.

They returned with a unanimous verdict.

Guilty.

On every count.

False reporting.

Evidence fabrication.

Child abuse.

Attempted fraud.

As the verdict was read, Elena finally cried real tears.

No cameras believed them anymore.
