Chapter 2 – The Jewelry Box Was Never the Goal

Arthur paused the recording.
Then placed a thick folder onto the dining table.
"I suspected this wasn't about jewelry."
He opened the file.
Inside were financial statements from Harper Development Group.
The company had lost millions over the previous year.
Several loans were already in default.
One document caught everyone's attention.
The missing jewelry box wasn't valuable because of the diamonds inside.
Hidden beneath the velvet lining was a small flash drive.
It contained original trust documents, offshore account records, and evidence that someone had secretly transferred company assets into private accounts.
Evelyn's hands began trembling.
Daniel quietly closed his eyes.
Grace finally understood.
"They didn't want the jewelry."
"They wanted the evidence."

Arthur nodded.
"And they needed someone to blame before anyone started asking questions."
