Chapter 3: The Empire Crumbling

Avery reached into the hidden pocket of her floral gown and pulled out her own smartphone, connecting it instantly to the ballroom's massive digital projection screen, which had been set up to show a montage of baby photos.

Instead of photos, an audio file began to play loudly through the state-of-the-art sound system. It was Victoria’s voice, clear and unmistakable, recorded just two days prior inside the Sterling private study.

"...The clinic took the bribe, Liam doesn't suspect a thing," Victoria’s recorded voice echoed through the hall. "Once he sees the falsified paternity results at the gala, he will divorce her under the fraud clause of the prenup. She will leave with absolutely nothing, and the Sterling bloodline will be cleansed of her background. The baby stays with us."

The ballroom went completely silent. Liam stared at the screen, his face turning pale as he looked from the projection to his mother. Victoria’s triumphant expression shattered into absolute horror; she stumbled backward, her hand knocking over a glass of champagne that shattered on the polished floor.

"Liam, she doctored that! It's a deepfake!" Victoria screamed, her elegant composure completely disintegrating into panic.

"It’s a live recording from your own study, Victoria," Avery said, stepping forward with insurmountable dignity. "And it’s already been sent to the federal authorities, along with the financial logs showing the offshore accounts you used to wire the bribe to the medical clinic."

Realizing the depth of his mother's manipulation, Liam sank into a nearby chair, completely broken, carefully handing baby Leo back into Avery’s waiting arms. Avery held her son tightly against her chest, looking down at the ruined matriarch.

Six months later, the Sterling financial empire was plagued by fraud investigations and a massive public relations nightmare. Victoria Sterling was facing felony charges for forgery, corporate bribery, and conspiracy, her high-society standing permanently destroyed. Avery had successfully filed for divorce, securing full custody of Leo and a massive settlement that ensured their independent future. Standing on the balcony of her own penthouse, far away from the toxic luxury of the Hamptons, Avery looked at the sunset, finally free from the house of glass.
