The Heir Unveiled — Chapter 3: The Fall of the Pretender

The next morning, the mansion felt completely different.
The same marble floors.
The same crystal chandelier.
But the atmosphere had changed.
Sofia walked through the halls quietly.
Not like someone who wanted power.
But like someone finally finding home.
Lord Alexander walked beside her.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
Sofia stopped.
“For what?”
“For every year you spent without knowing who you were.”
She looked at him.
The pain was still there.
But so was forgiveness.
“You found me.”
He smiled sadly.
“And I will spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel alone again.”
Across the mansion, Lady Evelyn packed her belongings.
The woman who once commanded the entire household now moved in silence.
Her jewelry was placed carefully into a suitcase.
Her expensive dresses folded away.
But none of them mattered anymore.
She had lost the one thing she valued most.
Status.
As she reached the doorway, Sofia appeared.
Evelyn stopped.
For a moment, neither woman spoke.
“I thought you would come to insult me,” Evelyn said quietly.
Sofia looked at her.
“I’m not you.”
Those words hurt more than anger.
Evelyn looked away.
“I hated you because you had what I wanted.”
Sofia frowned.
“What?”
“A place in this family.”
Her voice cracked.
“I spent my whole life trying to become someone important.”
Sofia remained silent.
“And you had it from the beginning.”
For the first time, Evelyn looked human.
Not powerful.
Not cruel.
Just broken.
Sofia could have destroyed her.
She could have demanded revenge.
Instead, she simply said:
“Everyone deserves to face the truth.”
May you like
Then she walked away.
Leaving Evelyn alone with the consequences.
