Chapter 3: The Family He Thought He Lost

For the first time in his life, Matteo DeLuca was afraid.

Not of enemies.

Not of death.

Of hope.

Because hope was dangerous.

It could be taken away.

“Where is she?” Matteo demanded.

Marco refused to answer.

But the evidence led them to an old private clinic outside the city.

A place hidden for two years.

A place where one woman had lived under a different name.

Matteo entered the room.

And stopped.

Elena was there.

Older.

Weaker.

But alive.

Neither of them moved.

Then Elena whispered:

“Matteo.”

His entire world broke.

He walked toward her.

“You’re alive.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“I tried to come back.”

“Why didn’t you?”

“Because Marco threatened Camryn.”

Matteo looked confused.

“Elena…”

She looked at Camryn.

“My daughter was never supposed to be part of this world.”

Camryn covered her mouth.

All these years…

Her mother had protected her.

Even while suffering alone.

Leo suddenly ran into the room.

For the first time in two years, he ran.

“Mommy!”

Elena fell to her knees.

And her son threw himself into her arms.

The child who lost his voice…

Found it again.

The child who had only known anger…

Found love.

Months later, the DeLuca empire changed.

Matteo destroyed the illegal parts of the organization.

He turned his power toward legitimate businesses.

People called him weak.

They said love had softened him.

They were wrong.

Love had made him stronger.

Camryn finished her studies.

She paid off her mother’s medical debt.

And she became the person who helped children suffering from trauma.

Leo grew up surrounded by family.

Not fear.

Not silence.

One evening, Matteo found Camryn on the balcony.

“Do you still think my family destroyed everything?” he asked.

Camryn smiled.

“Some parts.”

He nodded.

“And now?”

She looked inside.

At Elena laughing with Leo.

At the warm home they created.

“Now I think people can choose what they become.”

Matteo smiled.

A real smile.

The first one in years.

Because the most feared man in New York finally learned something money, power, and violence never taught him:

A family cannot be controlled.

May you like

It can only be loved.

The End.
