Chapter 2: Secrets Buried Beneath the Mansion

Police officers flooded the estate within minutes.
Detective Sarah Mitchell carefully collected the wire cutters, the knife, and pieces of the severed electrical cable.
The forensic electrician climbed into the shattered remains of the chandelier.
"This wasn't an accident," he announced.
"The support cable was deliberately cut."
Victor remained strangely calm.
"My lawyer will destroy this case."
Detective Mitchell only smiled.
"Maybe."
She nodded toward the security office.
"We already recovered the surveillance footage."
Victor's confidence disappeared.
The mansion had always used dozens of cameras.
But Victor had believed they were offline because he himself had ordered the security system disconnected.
He never realized the backup recording system continued storing footage independently.
The video showed everything.
Victor climbing the ladder.
Victor cutting the support cable.
Victor hiding the wire cutters inside his jacket.
Then waiting for Emily to walk beneath the chandelier.
The evidence was overwhelming.
As officers placed him in handcuffs, Victor turned toward Emily.
"I loved you."
Emily stared at him with tears in her eyes.
"No."
May you like
She shook her head.
"You loved my inheritance."
