Chapter 3: Truth Under Oath

Six months later...
The courtroom was overflowing.
Journalists.
Executives.
Victims of Richard's financial schemes.
Every seat was occupied.
Richard took the witness stand looking ten years older.
The confidence was gone.
So was the expensive smile.
Harrison approached with a single binder.
"No theatrics."
No raised voice.
Just questions.
"Mr. Harrington..."
"Did you transfer marital assets through Kensington Development Holdings?"
"...Yes."
"Did your wife authorize those transfers?"
"No."
"Did you falsify financial disclosures?"
"...Yes."
"Were you planning to leave your pregnant wife financially ruined before filing for divorce?"
Richard lowered his head.
"...Yes."
The courtroom became painfully quiet.
Then Harrison introduced the final exhibit.
Vanessa's text message.
Once you get rid of the dead weight...
The jury read every word.
Some jurors visibly grimaced.
Others looked toward Khloe, now holding her infant daughter in the gallery.
The contrast between innocence and cruelty required no explanation.
Vanessa later testified.
She tried blaming Richard.
Richard blamed Vanessa.
Their stories contradicted one another dozens of times.
Every lie only strengthened the prosecution's case.
After seven weeks of testimony...
The verdict arrived.
Vanessa Kensington—
Guilty of aggravated assault.
Richard Harrington—
Guilty of fraud, conspiracy, money laundering, tax crimes, and obstruction.
The judge looked directly at both defendants.
"Your greed destroyed innocent lives."
He imposed lengthy prison sentences.

The courtroom remained silent.
Justice required no applause.
