Chapter 1 – The Case Harrison Had Been Preparing

"What am I supposed to do?"

Khloe's voice barely carried across Harrison's office.

Her brother leaned back in his chair, folded his hands, and looked at her with the calm expression that had terrified corporate executives for nearly twenty years.

"You survive."

She stared at him.

"That's the first step."

Harrison slid a thick folder across the desk.

"I've already started."

Khloe frowned.

"You... started what?"

"Looking into Richard."

Months earlier, Harrison had noticed unusual activity involving Harrington Commercial Group.

Anonymous shell companies.

Inflated construction invoices.

Property transfers routed through offshore accounts.

At the time, he assumed it was another corporate fraud investigation.

He never imagined his own brother-in-law stood at the center of it.

"Your marriage wasn't their only plan," Harrison said quietly.

"They were stealing from investors."

Khloe looked stunned.

"So what do we do?"

"We wait."

Over the next three months, Khloe quietly moved into a secure apartment arranged by Harrison.

Every text message from Richard was preserved.

Every financial transaction was documented.

Private investigators tracked meetings between Richard and Vanessa.

For the first time in years, Harrison wasn't acting only as a brother.

He was building the strongest case of his career.

When Richard finally filed for divorce, he believed he had complete control.

Instead, he walked directly into Harrison's trap.

The hearing at the Montgomery County Courthouse was supposed to finalize temporary financial orders.

Richard expected Khloe to arrive frightened and alone.

Instead, she arrived with Harrison Cole.

The attorney whose reputation alone made opposing counsel nervous.

Richard's confidence cracked for the first time.

Vanessa whispered, "Relax."

"He can't prove anything."

Neither of them noticed the federal financial investigators quietly taking seats in the back row.
