CHAPTER 2 — THE WOMAN THEY NEVER SAW

Elena's voice never rose.
Yet every word carried across the silent boardroom.
"You were about to say I was nothing."
She took one slow step forward.
"But the truth is..."
"I allowed you to believe that."
Damian's confidence crumbled.
His eyes darted toward the executive beside Elena.
"There has to be some mistake."
"There isn't," the executive replied.
He opened another page inside the folder.
"Five years ago, Voss Global Holdings quietly acquired seventy-two percent of Sterling Capital."
Damian frowned.
"Sterling Capital owns our parent company."
"Exactly."
He turned another page.
"Which means every promotion you've received..."
"Every office you've occupied..."
"And every bonus you've celebrated..."
"...was funded by Ms. Elena Voss."
The room fell into stunned silence.
Veronica stared at Elena.
"But... why didn't anyone know?"
Elena smiled faintly.
"Because I wanted people to respect competence."
"Not my surname."
She looked around the room.
May you like
"Unfortunately..."
"Some people only respect titles."
