CHAPTER 3 — A DEBT MONEY COULD NEVER REPAY

The ballroom remained silent.

Vivian forced an uneasy smile.

"Mr. DeLuca... this is all just a misunderstanding."

Dominic slowly turned toward her.

"I watched everything."

His calm voice was somehow more frightening than shouting.

"You raised your hand against my mother."

Vivian swallowed hard.

"I didn't actually hit her."

"No."

Dominic nodded once.

"Because someone with more courage than everyone else in this room stopped you."

His eyes returned to Grace.

"What is your name?"

"Grace... Grace Miller."

"What do you earn here?"

She hesitated.

"Enough to survive."

Dominic looked toward the banquet manager.

"Effective immediately..."

"Miss Miller no longer works for anyone who allows guests to abuse their employees."

Marcus turned pale.

"Mr. DeLuca, we—"

"You watched."

"You did nothing."

Within minutes the hotel's owner rushed into the ballroom.

He apologized repeatedly to Grace and Margaret.

Marcus was dismissed before the gala even ended.

Later that night, Dominic quietly asked one of his investigators to learn more about Grace.

The report arrived before sunrise.

Single income.

Hospital debt.

Mother on oxygen support.

Younger brother with excellent grades.

No criminal record.

No hidden agenda.

She had defended Margaret because...

She simply believed it was the right thing to do.

Dominic closed the file.
