Chapter 2: The Secret Owner

John’s fingers tightened around the document.

“This is impossible.”

Clara remained calm.

“No. It is legal.”

The guests leaned closer.

Even Isabella stopped smiling.

“The day I saved Reed Corporation,” Clara continued, “I didn’t give you my money.”

John looked confused.

“I invested.”

She pointed at the contract.

“The agreement stated that if you ever betrayed our partnership, ownership rights would transfer.”

John’s breathing became heavier.

“You never told me.”

Clara looked at him.

“You never asked.”

That sentence hurt more than anything.

Because it was true.

John had spent years believing Clara was quiet because she was weak.

He never understood she was quiet because she was patient.

Isabella grabbed the papers.

“She’s lying.”

But after reading the signature page, even Isabella lost confidence.

John looked at Clara.

“You planned this?”

Clara shook her head.

“No.”

Her voice softened.

“I hoped I would never need to use it.”

For the first time that night, John saw the damage he had caused.

The woman standing in front of him was not angry.

She was finished.

“Why come here tonight?” John asked.

Clara looked around the ballroom.

“At first?”

She looked at the wedding decorations.

“I came to wish you happiness.”

John’s expression broke.

“And now?”

Clara looked at Isabella’s wine-stained dress.

“Now I came to end a mistake.”

The doors suddenly opened.

A group of lawyers entered.

Everyone turned.

One of them walked directly toward Clara.

“Ms. Reed, everything is prepared.”

John stepped back.

“Ms. Reed?”

The lawyer nodded.

“Yes.”

He looked at the crowd.

“Clara Reed is the majority shareholder of Reed Corporation.”

The room exploded with whispers.

The woman everyone ignored…

Was the person who owned everything.

Isabella’s face went pale.

“You tricked us.”

Clara looked at her.

“No.”

She walked closer.

“You underestimated me.”

Then she turned to John.

“I am not taking revenge.”

May you like

A pause.

“I am taking back my life.”
