Chapter 2: White Corridors

The hospital waiting room smelled of antiseptic and stale coffee. Marcus paced the length of the corridor, his tuxedo jacket discarded, his bowtie undone. Every tick of the wall clock felt like a hammer against his skull.
Finally, the double doors pushed open, and Dr. Evans stepped out. Marcus stopped dead in his tracks.
"She's stable, Marcus," Dr. Evans said gently, placing a hand on his shoulder. "The baby is fine. But it was a severe trauma. Clara needs absolute bed rest and zero stress. Another shock like that, and we might not be so lucky."

Relief washed over Marcus, quickly followed by a dark, simmering rage. Clara was safe, but the threat wasn't neutralized. Vanessa had crossed a line that couldn't be uncrossed. She had tried to kill his unborn child.
He pulled out his phone and dialed his head of security. "Lock down the accounts. All of them. And find out where Vanessa went."
