Victor forced himself to laugh.

"These papers mean nothing."

"You have no proof they're authentic."

Elena nodded calmly.

"I know."

"That's why I brought witnesses."

The ballroom doors opened.

Not police.

Not reporters.

Federal investigators.

Behind them walked a gray-haired man everyone thought had disappeared decades ago.

Daniel Carlisle.

Alive.

Healthy.

And carrying the original company ledgers.

Gasps echoed across the room.

Victor stumbled backward.

"You... you're supposed to be dead."

Daniel smiled sadly.

"That's what your father wanted."

He spent years living quietly overseas after surviving an attempt on his life.

All the while, Elena had been rebuilding everything in secret.

She had worked as a waitress in the flagship restaurant for six months.

Not because she needed the salary.

Because she wanted to discover who among the city's elite was still hiding the truth.

Tonight had never been a coincidence.

It had been the final test.

And Victor had failed it spectacularly.

Investigators began reading names.

One by one.

Guests who had laughed minutes earlier suddenly found themselves surrounded by officers.
