Chapter 3: The Price of Arrogance

The local police department arrived shortly after, but they weren't there to bail Richard out. Guided by the General's men, the police chief marched straight up to the trembling billionaire and slapped a pair of heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
"Richard Vance, you are under arrest for the assault of a protected veteran, reckless endangerment, and pending federal financial crimes," the chief announced, dragging the ruined mogul away. Richard screamed and begged for mercy, his expensive suit dragging through the dirty, fish-scented water he had created. The crowd of elites turned their backs on him, eager to distance themselves from a fallen man.
Meanwhile, the military medics gently lifted Elena into a fresh, dry wheelchair. Lily wiped her tears, finally smiling as she handed her grandmother the wet, silver picture frame Elena had desperately tried to protect during the fall.
Inside the frame was a photo of a young, handsome soldier in uniform—Elena’s late husband, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.
Elena looked up at her son, her eyes shining with quiet pride. "You always did know how to make an entrance, John."
"Only the best for the woman who raised me, Mom," General Irons replied, kissing her forehead.
