Chapter 2: The Fall of Andrew Whitmore

Three days later, Andrew arrived at corporate headquarters demanding a meeting.

Security stopped him at the front entrance.

"You're no longer authorized to enter."

His face turned red.

"I built this company!"

A nearby executive quietly replied,

"No, sir. Mariana saved it."

The truth spread quickly.

Employees learned who had negotiated failing contracts.

Who had covered emergency payroll.

Who had secured investor confidence during financial crises.

Every answer led back to Mariana.

Not Andrew.

Not Margaret.

Mariana.

Meanwhile, investigators discovered something else.

The emerald necklace had never been stolen.

Security footage from the mansion showed Brenda entering Margaret's private sitting room hours before the accusation.

The necklace was later found hidden inside Brenda's designer handbag.

She had staged everything.

Her plan was simple.

Humiliate Mariana.

Force a divorce.

Move into the mansion.

Instead, she became the center of a criminal investigation.

Margaret nearly fainted when police arrived.

Brenda tried blaming everyone else.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Andrew watched his carefully crafted life collapse piece by piece.

His mistress betrayed him.

His mother lied.

His company was gone.

His reputation was destroyed.

And Mariana had never stolen anything.

For the first time, he realized how badly he had failed the woman who had stood beside him for four years.

He requested a meeting.

Mariana agreed.

Only once.

When Andrew entered the conference room, he looked exhausted.

Older.

Smaller.

He stared at her.

"I was wrong."

Mariana said nothing.

"I thought everything belonged to me."

Still silence.

Tears filled his eyes.

"I didn't know what I had until I destroyed it."

Mariana finally spoke.

"No, Andrew."

Her voice remained calm.

"You knew exactly what you had."

The words hurt more than any punishment.

Because they were true.
