Chapter 1: The Photograph on the Marble Floor
Chapter 1: The Photograph on the Marble Floor

The entire banquet hall had fallen silent.
Crystal glasses stopped clinking. Conversations died instantly. Hundreds of eyes stared as the young waitress stood trembling, one hand covering her burning cheek after the slap.
“You shameless girl!” the furious socialite Victoria shouted. “Trying to steal my husband in front of everyone!”
Tears streamed down the waitress's face.
“I swear… that's not why I'm here,” she whispered.
As she bent to pick up the tray she had dropped, something slipped from her apron pocket.
An old, faded photograph.
It landed on the polished marble floor.
Richard, Victoria's husband, froze.
His eyes widened.
Slowly, he stepped forward and picked it up.
The photograph showed a much younger version of himself standing beside a seaside pier, holding a laughing little girl in his arms.
His fingers trembled.
“No…” he whispered.
Victoria stared at him.
“Richard? What is it?”
But he wasn't listening.
His voice had become hoarse.
“Where did you get this picture?”
The young waitress swallowed hard.
“My mother kept it all these years.”
Richard's face turned pale.
“What is your mother's name?”
“Emily Carter.”
The glass slipped from Richard's hand and shattered on the floor.
Twenty-two years ago, Emily Carter had been the love of his life.
And everyone believed she had disappeared forever.
Including Richard himself.
But before anyone could speak again, the young woman quietly said words that froze his blood.
“My name is Anna Carter.”
“And my mother said… you're my father.”
The banquet hall erupted in shocked whispers.
Victoria stood motionless.
The anger that had filled her moments earlier suddenly vanished.
And for the first time that night…
She saw not a seductress.
May you like
But a frightened girl with tears in her eyes.
A girl she had just humiliated in front of the world.
