PART 2 — The Doors Stayed Shut

The final steel barrier locked into place with a metallic boom that echoed through the mansion.

Panic spread instantly.

Guests rushed from one entrance to another, only to find every reinforced door sealed.

"What is this?"

"Open the doors!"

"We have to leave!"

The orchestra quietly lowered their instruments.

The waitstaff stepped back against the walls.

Only one person remained perfectly calm.

Me.

The man standing in front of me—Carter Whitmore—finally lost the smug smile that had carried him through the evening.

"You've lost your mind," he snapped.

"You can't imprison people."

"I don't have to," I replied.

"I only have to keep everyone here long enough for the truth to catch up."

His father, Richard Whitmore, pushed through the crowd.

The powerful real estate billionaire glared at me.

"My son tells me you assaulted him."

Several guests nodded immediately.

No one mentioned the bruise on my face.

No one mentioned the torn sleeve hanging from my shoulder.

Richard pointed toward the exits.

"Open these doors now."

Instead, another set of doors opened.

Nearly thirty uniformed private security officers entered in perfect formation.

Their commander walked directly toward me.

"Ms. Robertson."

"The estate has been secured."

"No one will enter or leave without your authorization."

The ballroom fell silent.

Richard frowned.

"Who exactly are you?"

Before I could answer, a familiar voice echoed from the grand staircase.

"She's my daughter."

Every head turned.

Finnley Robertson descended the marble staircase with the calm confidence of a man who never needed to raise his voice to command a room.

The whispers spread instantly.

"Robertson..."

"As in Robertson Global?"

"That's impossible..."

May you like

Richard's face slowly lost its color.

He suddenly understood why the security team had obeyed her instead of him.
