PART 3 — Every Camera Was Watching

Finnley stopped beside me.
His eyes softened for only a moment when he noticed the bruise beneath my eye.
Then they became cold.
"Who touched my daughter?"
No one answered.
Carter laughed nervously.
"She tripped."
Finnley looked toward the security director.
"Play the ballroom footage."
A massive LED screen behind the orchestra came to life.
The recording began.
There I was speaking quietly with another guest.
Then Carter approached.
The audio filled the ballroom.
"You embarrassed me."
"I said excuse me," I answered.
His face twisted with anger.
Without warning, he grabbed my arm.
Shoved me backward.
My body slammed against the marble wall.
Gasps filled the room.
The video continued.
He struck me across the face.
Blood appeared on my lip.
Then came the worst part.
Dozens of guests watched.
No one moved.
The recording ended.
Silence settled over the ballroom.
Richard slowly turned toward his son.
"You told me she attacked you."
Carter couldn't answer.
His own friends lowered their heads.
None of them were willing to lie after watching the footage.
Finnley spoke quietly.
"One assault."
"One attempted cover-up."

"And an entire ballroom that chose convenience over courage."
His disappointment carried more weight than any shout.
