Chapter 3: The Man Sophie Never Spoke About

Two days later, an older man stepped quietly into the hospital.
His name was Michael Turner.
He looked nothing like the monster Sophie had described growing up.
Gray hair.
Weathered hands.
Simple clothes.
His eyes filled with tears the moment he saw her through the ICU window.
Daniel watched cautiously.
"You abandoned her."
Michael lowered his head.
"No."
"I was told she died."
Everyone stared.
Michael slowly pulled a faded envelope from his jacket.
Inside were decades-old court documents.
Letters he had mailed.
Birthday cards returned unopened.
Custody records.
Every page told the same story.
Sophie's mother had disappeared after their divorce.
She had changed cities.
Changed Sophie's last name.
And convinced her daughter that her father never wanted her.
Michael searched for twenty-six years.
He never stopped.
When the hospital called because his DNA appeared in Sophie's medical records, he drove through the night without sleeping.
"I only want one thing," he whispered.
"Let me save my daughter."
Tests began immediately.
The next morning, the hematologist smiled for the first time.
"Perfect match."
Daniel covered his face.
Carol burst into tears.
Michael simply closed his eyes in silent gratitude.
The transplant was scheduled for the following week.
Long hours passed.
No one spoke much.
They only waited.
And prayed.
Finally...
The surgeon emerged.
"It worked."
The room erupted into relieved sobs.
