Growing U.S. Armada Near Iran: Newly Spotted Locations Hint at Possible Moves

In recent weeks, the United States has noticeably expanded its military presence around Iran, deploying additional naval and air assets as President Donald Trump weighs possible military options. Trump himself described the growing force in the region as an “armada,” although administration officials have not publicly explained the precise mission or strategic goals behind the buildup, according to a report by The New York Times.

At the center of the deployment is the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, operating alongside three guided-missile warships armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles. These types of vessels have previously been used in operations targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, including joint strikes carried out by the United States and Israel last June.

The carrier strike group is supported by ships equipped with advanced air defense systems designed to shield the fleet from potential missile or aerial threats. Onboard the Lincoln are combat aircraft such as F-35 stealth fighters and F/A-18 strike jets, which are capable of reaching a wide range of targets inside Iranian territory.

In what analysts describe as a significant escalation of military capability in the region, the United States has also ordered a second aircraft carrier strike group to deploy. This group is led by the Navy’s newest and most advanced carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, accompanied by several destroyers. Aircraft from the Ford have previously participated in high-profile military operations abroad.

Meanwhile, the number of U.S. destroyers operating across the broader Middle East waters has continued to grow. A second destroyer has recently been stationed in the Northern Arabian Sea, while another is currently heading toward the region, bringing the total number of American destroyers there to roughly thirteen, according to a Navy official.

On land, Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan has emerged as an important hub for U.S. air operations. Between mid-January and mid-February, multiple waves of combat aircraft arrived at the base, raising the total number stationed there to more than sixty.
