Chapter 1 – The Truth on Every Screen

The ballroom became so quiet that the hum of the chandeliers seemed deafening.

Every television mounted around the reception hall flickered to life.

The hotel manager stood beside the control panel, his face pale.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Whitmore," he said firmly. "Our security system automatically backs up footage to multiple servers. It cannot be deleted."

The first video began.

Time stamp: 7:42 p.m.

Guests laughed while servers poured champagne.

Little Sophie skipped between tables, proudly carrying a basket of flower petals.

Then the camera zoomed toward Preston.

He glanced over both shoulders.

Satisfied that no one was watching, he reached into the inside pocket of his tuxedo and removed his titanium phone.

Without hesitation, he walked behind Sophie's chair.

The little girl was busy coloring on the back of her children's menu.

She never noticed him.

Preston quietly slipped the phone into the pocket of her denim jacket.

Then he smiled.

Not the smile of a groom.

The smile of a man setting a trap.

Gasps echoed through the ballroom.

"No..."

Someone whispered.

"He framed her."

The footage continued.

Minutes later, Preston dramatically announced that his phone had disappeared.

He walked directly to Sophie.

Reached into the exact pocket where he had hidden it.

And held it above his head like a trophy.

The room watched itself become an accomplice.

Every accusing stare.

Every cruel whisper.

Every judgment against an innocent child.

All recorded.

All undeniable.

Then the second recording played.

Sophie stepped behind Evelyn, frightened.

Evelyn raised one hand to protect her daughter.

Preston ripped the heavy oak menu board from its stand.

He swung with both hands.

The board crashed into Sophie's head.

Blood splattered across the menu.

The screen froze on the exact frame.

An eight-year-old child struck by a grown man.

Silence filled the room.

Then a police officer walked through the ballroom doors.

"Mr. Preston Whitmore," he announced.

"You are under arrest for assaulting a child, filing a false accusation, and tampering with evidence."

For the first time in his life...

Preston realized that cameras never cared who the golden child was.
