Chapter 1: The Camera Never Blinked

Vanessa's confidence cracked for the first time.

She slowly turned toward the security camera hanging silently in the corner of the hospital room.

My father folded his hands behind his back.

"That camera has been recording every second since my daughter was admitted."

The room fell into absolute silence.

One of the nurses nodded.

"Hospital policy. Every high-risk maternity room is monitored."

Vanessa forced a laugh.

"So what? I barely touched her."

The nurse looked at the red marks on my scalp.

The fetal monitor continued its frantic rhythm.

"I don't think the recording will agree with you."

Ethan stepped forward.

"Sir... let's not make this worse than it already is."

My father finally looked at him.

"Worse?"

His voice remained calm.

"You watched another woman assault your pregnant wife."

"You called it an overreaction."

"You tried to excuse it."

Ethan lowered his eyes.

"I didn't think—"

"Exactly."

My father interrupted.

"You didn't."

At that moment, two hospital security officers entered the room.

One addressed Vanessa directly.

"Ms. Cross, you're being detained pending review of the security footage."

Vanessa's face hardened.

"You can't arrest me over this."

"No," my father replied.

"But the police can."

As security escorted her toward the door, she twisted around and glared at me.

"This isn't over."

I met her stare without flinching.

"It was over the moment you put your hands on my child."

She disappeared into the hallway.

The room grew quiet again.

Then my father picked up the folder Ethan had left beside my bed.

"The financial paperwork."

He smiled faintly.

"Let's see what my son-in-law hoped his medicated wife would sign."

The smile disappeared after the first page.

May you like

"This wasn't routine paperwork."

It was a complete transfer of my company shares into Ethan's name.
