Chapter 2: The Trap Within the Trap

Ethan's face turned as white as the hospital sheets.
"Lena... please let me explain."
"You have one chance," I said quietly.
He hesitated.
That was all the answer I needed.
My father placed another folder on my bedside table.
Unlike Ethan's documents...
These were prepared weeks ago.
"I had my legal team review every financial transaction after Lena mentioned the hotel receipts."
Ethan looked up in shock.
"You investigated me?"
"No."
My father answered.
"I verified the truth."
Inside the folder were bank records.
Private messages.
Hotel reservations.
Luxury purchases made with company funds.
And one contract.
A consulting agreement awarding Vanessa millions of dollars for work she had never performed.
The hospital room became painfully still.
"You were planning to move the assets," my father said.
"After Lena signed away her voting shares, you intended to file for divorce."
Ethan's knees nearly gave out.
"It wasn't supposed to happen like this."
Vanessa had promised him everything.
She claimed they could run the company together.
She convinced him Lena was too emotional, too distracted by the pregnancy to notice.
Instead...
She noticed everything.
Because she never signed a single page.
When Ethan asked why, she had smiled sweetly and said,
"I'll read them after the baby is born."
She had been buying time.
Not because she was weak.
Because she was waiting for proof.
Proof that greed would reveal itself without being interrupted.
My father looked at Ethan one final time.
"My daughter inherited my patience."
"But not my forgiveness."

Outside the room, footsteps echoed through the hallway.
The police had arrived.
