Chapter 2: The Investigation Begins

Alexander remained silent for nearly a full minute.
Then he stood.
"Take pictures," he said calmly.
Elena frowned.
"What?"
"Every bruise. Every cut. Every torn piece of that dress."
His voice carried no anger.
Only certainty.
Within minutes, Sofia's injuries had been photographed from every angle. Alexander called one of his oldest friends—a respected trauma surgeon.
"I need a full medical examination," he said.
"No records disappear. No shortcuts."
Two hours later, the doctor's report confirmed what Sofia had already described.
Forty separate impacts.
Multiple soft-tissue injuries.
Evidence of violent assault.
The doctor looked at Alexander.
"You should notify the police immediately."
Alexander nodded.
"I will."
But first...
He needed the truth.
He called Javier.
The young man answered after several rings.
"Mr. Ramirez..."
Alexander interrupted.
"Did you know your wife was being beaten?"
Silence.
"I..."
"Answer me."
Another long pause.
Finally Javier whispered,
"My mother only wanted to teach her respect."
Alexander closed his eyes.
"So you knew."
"I couldn't stop her."
"You chose not to."
"No..."
"You stood outside that hotel room while your wife screamed."
Javier began crying.
"My family controls everything."
Alexander's voice became ice.
"Not anymore."
He ended the call.
Without another word, he forwarded the recording to his attorney.
Then he made one more phone call.
This time to the manager of the luxury hotel.
"I need every security recording from last night."
"I'm sorry, sir, those are confidential."
Alexander replied quietly,
"You have ten minutes before my legal team arrives with a preservation order."
Nine minutes later...
The hotel called back.
The footage had been secured.
When Alexander, Elena, and Sofia watched the recordings together, nobody spoke.
The cameras clearly showed Carmen entering the bridal suite with four women.
Almost forty minutes later...
The women left laughing.
Javier was standing outside the entire time.
He never opened the door.
He never tried to help.
He simply walked away beside his mother.
Sofia buried her face in Elena's shoulder.
"I married a stranger."
Alexander stared at the screen.
"No."
"You married a coward."
The next morning...
Police officers arrived with arrest warrants.
Not just for assault.
But for conspiracy, unlawful confinement, intimidation, and extortion.
Carmen never imagined the police would come to her mansion less than twenty-four hours after the wedding.
She smiled when she opened the door.
That smile disappeared the moment the lead detective said,
May you like
"Carmen Alvarez..."
"You're under arrest."
