Chapter 5 – Healing Isn't Revenge

Six months later...
The surgery succeeded.
Recovery was painful.
Some mornings I couldn't stand without help.
But every difficult step felt different.
It was leading somewhere.
Jonathan visited often—not as my attorney anymore, but as a trusted friend.
One afternoon we visited my grandparents' graves.
"I wish they could see this," I whispered.
Jonathan smiled.
"I think they already did."
Using part of the inheritance, I founded the Harper Hope Foundation.
Its mission was simple.
Help cancer patients escape financial abuse from relatives who viewed illness as opportunity.
Our first grant paid for a young mother's chemotherapy after her family emptied her bank account.
When she hugged me, I understood something.
