CHAPTER 2 – THE MAN WHO OWNED NOTHING

Marcus stormed into headquarters just after sunrise, convinced he could reverse whatever had happened overnight.

Instead, his executive keycard flashed red.

"Access denied."

Two uniformed security officers stepped forward.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Bennett," one of them said respectfully. "We're under new instructions."

"New?" Marcus barked. "I gave those instructions!"

"No, sir."

"They came from the owners."

Those words echoed through the lobby.

Employees who had once rushed to impress Marcus now stood silently, watching as he was escorted out of the building.

Inside the boardroom, Isabella sat beside her father for the first time in eleven years.

She had never hidden because she lacked power.

She had hidden because she wanted to know whether Marcus loved her—or only the empire she brought into his life.

Now she had her answer.

The board reviewed evidence of Marcus's misconduct: diverted company funds, manipulated expense accounts, unauthorized executive perks, and conflicts of interest involving Vanessa.

One vote followed another.

The decision was unanimous.

Marcus was removed as CEO, stripped of his shares, and ordered to repay millions under the terms of his employment contract.

Vanessa tried to salvage the situation by claiming she knew nothing.

But hotel surveillance, financial records, and emails told a different story.

She quietly packed her belongings before noon.

No one stopped her.

No one asked where she was going.

That evening, Isabella walked through the hotel lobby again.

The same employees who had watched her humiliation now greeted her with genuine respect.

She stopped them before anyone could apologize.

"You were protecting your jobs," she said gently.
