Chapter 4 – The Choice

Months later, Daniel requested one final meeting.

We met in the same small café where we had shared our first date years earlier.

He looked older.

The confidence that once filled every room had disappeared.

"I don't miss the money," he admitted quietly.

"I miss you."

I stirred my coffee without speaking.

"I thought you married me because you believed in me."

"I did."

"Then why didn't you tell me who you really were?"

I smiled sadly.

"Because I wanted one person to love Elena."

"Not Elena Ward."

"Not the heiress."

"Just me."

His eyes filled with regret.

"I failed."

"You made a choice."

"They aren't always the same thing."

He reached across the table.

"I would do anything for another chance."

I stood.

"Then become the man you should have been."

"But you won't do it as my husband."

I walked away before he could answer.
