Chapter 2 – The Investigation

Within an hour, Rosemont's executive conference room had become an emergency investigation center.

Hospital attorneys.

Human Resources.

Security supervisors.

Risk management.

Everyone had been summoned.

Chief of Security Marcus Hale connected several camera angles to the conference room display.

"We reviewed every available recording."

The first video confirmed Victoria's shove.

The second showed Ryan whispering to Victoria before the incident.

The third revealed something no one expected.

Earlier that morning, Ryan and Victoria had met privately in the hospital café.

Their conversation had been recorded by a security camera equipped with synchronized audio for emergency investigations.

Victoria smiled confidently.

"Once she's embarrassed enough, she'll sign the divorce papers."

Ryan nodded.

"And after that, we'll announce our engagement."

The room became silent.

Marcus played another section.

Ryan laughed.

"No one important will ever believe Emily."

Charles slowly removed his glasses.

"Apparently," he said quietly, "you underestimated who she belonged to."

The CEO closed his notebook.

"This investigation is no longer an internal disciplinary matter."

Hospital legal counsel agreed.

"It appears there may have been intentional harassment on hospital property."

Ryan looked desperately toward Emily.

"Please... this isn't what it looks like."

Emily met his eyes calmly.

"It looks exactly like what it is."

Charles turned to the Board Secretary.

"Effective immediately, suspend every partnership discussion involving Ryan's company."

Ryan nearly fell out of his chair.

His construction firm had depended on a multimillion-dollar contract with the Foundation.
