Chapter 11 - BRENDA TURNED THE KNIFE

Brenda did not stop.
She walked directly toward the reporters.
Andrew’s security team tried to block her.
She raised her phone.
“I have recordings.”
Andrew’s face went pale.
“Brenda.”
She ignored him.
“I have messages.”
“Stop.”
“I have financial documents.”
“Brenda!”
She finally looked at him.
“You told your lawyer this was all my idea.”
Cameras flashed.
Andrew moved closer.
“This is not the place.”
“You made it the place.”
Reporters shouted questions from every direction.
Brenda lifted her chin.
“Andrew Whitmore knew the necklace accusation was staged.”
The crowd erupted.
“He helped plan it.”
Andrew pointed at her.
“She’s lying.”
Brenda laughed.
“You want me to play the audio?”
He stopped.
That silence was more damaging than any confession.
Within minutes, clips spread online.
Whitmore Capital’s board called another emergency session.
This time, I did not request it.
The independent directors did.
Andrew arrived furious.
“You did this.”
I sat across from him.
“No.”
“You sent her.”
“No.”
“You’re enjoying this.”
I thought about the question.
“No.”
That surprised him.
“I wanted the truth.”
I looked around the table.
“Truth is rarely enjoyable.”
The directors began voting.
First resolution.
Remove Andrew’s authority to execute transactions.
Approved.
Second resolution.
Place the CEO on administrative leave pending investigation.
Approved.
Third resolution.
Appoint an interim chief executive.
Andrew stood.
“You can’t remove me from my own company.”
One director looked at him.
“You own less than twelve percent of the voting interest.”
Andrew turned toward me.
I said nothing.
The vote passed.
He was no longer CEO.
The man who had ordered me to kneel was asked to surrender his security badge before leaving the building.
He stared at the badge in his hand.
Then at me.
“This is what you wanted.”
“No.”
“What else could you possibly want?”
I looked directly into his eyes.
“I want you to understand what you did.”
He laughed bitterly.
“You destroyed me over a marriage.”
“No.”
I stood.
“You destroyed yourself.”
Security escorted him toward the door.
Before leaving, Andrew turned.
“You think your father will always protect you?”
I frowned.
His smile returned slightly.
Then he said something that made my father’s attorney stop writing.
“You still don’t know what Alejandro did to build his fortune.”
The room went silent.
Andrew walked out.

And for the first time since this began, the threat was not aimed at me.
It was aimed at my father.
