Chapter 2 – The Necklace That Was Never Missing
Back at the Hawthorne mansion, Margaret sat proudly with Brenda, convinced everything would soon return to normal.
Then detectives arrived.
One officer placed the emerald necklace on the dining table.
Margaret gasped.
"My necklace!"
The detective looked directly at Brenda.
"We recovered it from your private dressing room."
Brenda's smile disappeared instantly.
"Someone planted it!"
The officer calmly continued.
"The hidden camera inside the jewelry vault recorded everything."
The video played.
Brenda was clearly seen removing the necklace herself before slipping it into her designer handbag.
Hours later, she hid it behind a false panel inside her closet.
Her plan had been simple.
Frame Mariana.
Destroy her marriage.
Take her place.
Margaret's hands began shaking violently.
"You lied to us..."
Brenda desperately grabbed Andrew's arm.
"I only did it because I love you."
Andrew slowly pulled away.
For the first time, he realized every accusation Mariana had denied had been the truth.
He had slapped an innocent woman.
